Success at the double for Solihull businesses

Two Solihull businesses are toasting their success in the 2010 Midlands Business of the Year Awards.

John Cave, founder of Westhaven Worldwide Logistics (http://www.westhavenww.co.uk/) and a board director of building supplies firm EH Smith, was named Midlands Businessperson of the Year; Steven Timberlake, MD of inspirational garden products retailer Hidden Eden, took the title of Young Entrepreneur of the Year. Hidden Eden has a shop in Mell Square, Solihull. Mr Timberlake was also shortlisted in the Midlands Businessperson category.

These awards were sponsored by UK Special Events, the firm behind the Midlands Business Awards franchise and PR company HCK Communications respectively.

This was the fourth year of the awards and more than 300 people attended the ceremony at the NEC Hilton Metropole Hotel. The guest of honour was Jerry Blackett, chief executive of Birmingham and Solihull Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Mr Cave said: “We are delighted to have received official recognition for the efforts of the whole team in winning this award. Business is challenging but with the right products, determination and teamwork, success is possible.”

Mr Timberlake said the combination of a unique, high street-based retail offering, backed up by a strong online offering at http://www.hiddeneden.com/ was proving a successful formula.

Harj Sandher, MD of organisers UK Special Events, the company behind the event, said: “We had some excellent entries and are delighted that the event is growing in popularity and quality. The range of talent in the Midlands is huge and the entrepreneurial spirit is alive and kicking.”
